One development after Hurricane Sandy is the emergence of solar-powered phone charging stations around New York City. This particular station is in Union Square; there are solar phone charging stations in parks city-wide like Rockaway Beach, Central Park Brooklyn Borough Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and other locations. While these are amenities for residents and visitors, solar-powered charging stations were used by local solar energy groups after Hurricane Sandy, when large sections of the city had no power for days and sometimes weeks.
